ABC level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling Course
The course is open to individuals who wish to be trained to become a professional counsellor. The course matches the training criteria requirement to enable the qualified counsellor to apply for individual BACP accreditation. Applicants our welcome to apply when they have completed their certificate in counselling skills level 3 course.
The course learning is made up of several units as follows: Ethics and working in an agency setting, counselling relationship and theory, diversity including mental health issues, self-awareness and working reflectively, skills and the therapeutic relationship. Internal assessment will be through written and practical work in which feedback and will be given from tutors and peers.
Self awareness is an important part of the training this runs throughout the course looking at values and prejudice along with the ability to be relational. It is hoped that students will strive towards becoming more accepting of themselves and others and that they take responsibility for their own development.

Students will pass a skills assessment and after consulting with a supervisor for their placement work will then undertake a 100 hour placement. At this stage of the course students will be striving to assimilate the key principles of person centred counselling. It is essential that the student is able to respect the clients way of being.

External assessment consists of a portfolio of work including case studies. Guidance will be given during the course however tutors cannot mark this work. It is expected that students will be able to determine if they are ready for submission.

Successful completion of the course may enable progression onto other higher level courses, previous students have gone onto study level 5 courses or onto a University course to study for an MA in counselling studies.
2018 course fees year one £1,340 Awarding body fee £154.40 for the two years plus a mandatory residential fee to be arranged for each year. Installments maybe available however once enrolled onto the course the student is agreeing to commit to completing and paying the full fee for that year.
There are also additional costs for clinical supervision and personal therapy
The diploma will commence on Thursday 12th September 2019
5.30 – 9pm, plus some occasional weekend work. Interview selection is commencing in May 2019, applications are now being accepted
